Current Volunteer Opportunities




Back to School Picnic -- Rum Village -- August 30, 2019 -- 5:30-7:30pm
Join us for a fun night with face painting and a cake walk, as well as pizza, drinks, and KONA ICE for purchase.  Volunteers are needed to help sell, paint faces, and donate baked goods.  Kennedy merchandise will also be available for purchase.



Kennedy T-shirts:

Each year the PTO provides a free t-shirt for KPA students and staff.  Students are able to enter a design contest to create the artwork for the front of the shirt.  Family members are also able to purchase shirts as well.
Volunteers are needed to help coordinate, collect orders, and sort and distribute t-shirts.

Kennedy Color Craze: Friday, September 27, 2019  (rain date Oct. 4th) – Kennedy School Yard
This is Kennedy’s biggest fundraiser for the year.  Students will raise funds and participate in a Color Craze experience.  Students will run the perimeter of the school and be decorated with a variety of colors. 
Volunteers are needed to coordinate, advertise, collect money, set up, and tear down.

Book Fair: October 21-25, 2019 and May 2020 -- Kennedy Library –
The Scholastic Book Fair is an opportunity for families to get new books at a great price.   The fall fair raises money to our library or other school needs, while the spring fair provides bigger discounts on books. 
Volunteers are needed to coordinate, prepare flyers prior, set up and tear down, staff the book fair, and provide snacks for the teacher preview day.  Fall Book Fair volunteers receive a discount at the Book Fair.

Barnes and Noble Book Fair: November – Barnes and Noble at University Park Mall
KPA hosts activities at Barnes and Noble along with a Book Fair with a portion of the proceeds going back to Kennedy.  Students do activities and teachers read throughout the day.
Volunteers are needed to help with flyers prior to the event, and activities taking place that day.

Texas Roadhouse Gift Card Sale: November – December – Kennedy Academy
Students are able to sell gift cards to Texas Roadhouse where KPA receives a percentage of purchases.  Students are able to win a variety of prizes, including an iPad mini, gift cards, and Roadhouse certificates
Volunteers are needed to coordinate with Texas Roadhouse and collect/remit sales packets.

 Warm Welcome Back: January – morning – Kennedy Academy
The PTO provides the teachers and bus driver’s donuts and hot chocolate or coffee one morning after winter break to welcome them back to school. 
Volunteers needed to coordinate and assist with distribution. 

 Jump Rope for Heart:  February – during school – Kennedy gym
Along with the American Heart Association, students will participate in heart healthy activities and collect donation for the Association.
Volunteers are needed to help organize snack collection and distribution.

Stuff-A-Truck Food Drive:  April – during school – Kennedy Academy
Students collect non-perishable food items and toiletries to donate to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.  Our goal is to break the previous year’s record.  In 2016 we collected 4,396 lbs of food.
Volunteers are needed to coordinate, prepare flyers prior to the event, collect items from classrooms, count items, and organize truck loading.

Teacher Appreciation Week:  First Week of May – Kennedy Academy
The PTO provides treats for teachers throughout the week.
Volunteers are needed to coordinate events and donations brought to school.

Kennedy Collections:  All school year – Kennedy Academy
Kennedy collects Box Tops for Education.
Volunteers are needed to help cut, count, and manage the points we have earned.

Other opportunities to help during the year include: Restaurant “give back” nights, picture day, Magnet Fair and Open Houses, social media, and Science Fair.
